Laura McConnell Conti

Laura McConnell is a queer storyteller, advocate, and entrepreneur. She was raised in the fundamentalist Christian cult known as The Truth 2x2s and was excommunicated aged 19. She was raised with strict gender and sexuality stereotypes and with limited access to education and information, as is the norm inside Truth 2x2s. She came from rural/remote communities in NSW.

Laura is a BA, BCom, AAICD and worked for almost 20 years in Finance and Accounting. She is a non-executive director on the boards of several feminist-led women’s social service organisations and is Co-Founder/Co-CEO of bedding & sleep brand #GoKindly. Laura has advocated for and supported survivors of cults since her own leaving of Truth 2x2s in 1999. Her writing, creating and activism particularly focuses on the impact of cults on women, young people and LGBTQIA+. Her work has a focus on intersectionality – of cult experiences of class, race, gender, sexuality, urban/rural-remote. She is host of Truth 2x2
