About this speaker
Jane Kennedy is a Counsellor working on the lands of the Wangal and Gadigal peoples, Sydney’s Inner West. She works with clients recovering from the harm experienced in faith communities and other high control groups such as cults and sects. Having spent decades in church and ministry, she still holds affection for elements of the faith of my youth but can no longer be part of organised religion. She is a Sentimental Non-Believer.
The fallout from rigid, controlling dogma and years spent in high-control, high-demand spaces can be debilitating and lead to trauma. Jane works with trauma using Havening Techniques®, somatics and parts work; whilst also loves narrative therapy and DBT.
As a co-founder of The Religious Trauma Collective, Jane is most excited about creating awareness of religious harm in Australia & New Zealand so our context here can be better resourced, and more people can find the support they need. Wanting to create connection where currently people feel isolated and alone in this experience.
You can read more of Jane’s story in her eBook ‘The Sentimental Non-Believer’, read more over on her Substack, or more about this big topic inside the course, What I Wish My Therapist Knew About Religious Trauma.
We can find relief, live with greater ease and come home to ourselves. Healing is possible.
