About this speaker
Anke Richter is an international journalist and author in Ōtautahi Christchurch with a long career as a foreign correspondent for Germany and freelancer for the New Zealand media. Her last non-fiction book is “Cult Trip: Inside the world of coercion and control” (HarperCollins) – a haunting and personal investigation into present and former sex cults like Centrepoint and Gloriavale, and their lasting shadow.
Since the release of “Cult Trip” in 2022, she has become an advocate for cult awareness, which led to founding the charity Decult, helping cult survivors as media liaison, and organising the first Decult conference in 2024. Anke also co-founded FACT (Fight Against Conspiracy Theories) Aotearoa and was awarded New Zealand Skeptic of the Year.
